The Collective Appoints Award-Winning Craig Rogan as Executive Head Chef

Following the resounding success of their recent reinvention, the team behind innovative social space The Collective announce the next stage in their remarkable evolution.

Earlier this year, the interior-design retail and cafe-bar venue invited award-winning chef Craig Rogan to host a series of fine-dining pop-up events, all of which sold out. They also extended their opening hours to attract the post-work crowd looking for fine wines and inventive cocktails, which also proved popular.

The Collective is delighted to announce that Rogan is now a permanent member of its growing team and has taken over their kitchen with immediate effect. Alongside his famous tasting menus that wowed foodies throughout the summer, the celebrated Yorkshire chef has been busy crafting a series of all-new menus for the autumn and winter months.

Creative contemporary cuisine

Diners can expect not one but two tasting menus, an a la carte menu and a modern spin on the traditional Sunday roast. Rogan promises an elevated take on brunch-style comfort food by day and creative contemporary cuisine by night.

All menus will continue to champion sustainable local produce and suppliers whilst presenting beautifully artistic dishes that taste just as good as they look. The Collective is setting its sights on becoming the city’s number one destination for imaginative brunch creations and fine-dining, the latter of which will be presented in the form of a five or eight-dish tasting menu.

Stand-out dishes from the all-day menu include woodland mushrooms on toast with old Winchester cheese and black truffle honey, baked egg shakshuka with chorizo and Yorkshire cheddar, and salt-baked beetroots with kidderton ash, walnuts and raspberry vinegar.

Filled with temptation

Highlights from the evening menu include violet potato with ox cheek and lovage, hen of the woods with charcoal and cheddar, chicken with bilberry and walnut, and white chocolate with milk and brambles.

Rogan’s Sunday roast menu is also filled with temptation and ranges from a tender beef sirloin with fat rosti, roots and caramelised shallots, to a cod, crab ‘nduja, radish and cucumber dish. All come served with truffle pudding, brassica cheese and bone marrow gravy.

As ever, The Collective bar will be mixing up a selection of classic and bespoke cocktails, fine wines and local craft beers. Speaking about his new position, Rogan said:

‘’It’s long been a dream of mine to lead a kitchen with complete creative freedom to run wild. I’ve always expressed myself through food and The Collective team has given me the platform to do just that.’’

‘’We were blown away by the reception to my pop-up events, and am confident returning guests will continue to be surprised by our unique approach to modern cuisine. I’m excited for the future and am ready to take the brand to new heights.’’

Strength to strength

The Collective debuted on Boar Lane back in 2021 as an interior design and cafe-bar concept, inspired by the Los Angeles art scene. As well as serving as an all-day cafe, it allowed customers the opportunity to purchase the furnishings and tableware on display.

The brand has gone from strength to strength since its rebirth as a restaurant and bar, with both Yorkshire foodies and critics raving about Rogan’s menus and the striking venue.

Dale Wynter, founder of The Collective, said:

‘’The Collective is proof that the key to survival is constant reinvention, and we were confident that our latest incarnation would strike a chord with our customers. Craig really exceeded our expectations with his tasting menus and our bar has really taken things to the next level too.’’

‘’We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far and believe our autumn and winter offering is our strongest to date. Our aim is to be the best in the city and I feel we’ve got the right people on board to make this happen. We can’t wait to see what the future holds.’’
