Yorkshire’s thriving food scene continues to shine, with The Plough in Wombleton securing a spot on Michelin’s latest list of the best pubs in the region. The announcement follows a strong showing for the county at the 2025 Michelin Awards in Glasgow, where Forge at Middleton Lodge earned Yorkshire its eighth Michelin star.
Run by Richard and Lindsey Johns, The Plough was included in the Michelin Guide for the UK & Ireland for the first time in January. The prestigious guide praises its “straightforward dishes providing ample flavour and coming in generous portions,” set in the scenic surroundings of the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills.

Introducing the list, Michelin highlights Yorkshire’s rich culinary offerings, noting that each featured pub is “run with genuine care and pride” and celebrates “the best of the local larder.” The Plough joins a selection of standout inns from across the county, including establishments in Nun Monkton, Crayke, South Dalton, Leyburn, Halifax, Harome, Byland, Great Ouseburn, and Hawnby.
Reflecting on the recognition, Richard and Lindsey said: “We were totally over the moon to be included in the 2025 Michelin Guide. To now feature in a Michelin list of Yorkshire’s best inns is the icing on the cake, especially after recently featuring in the 2025 Estrella Damm list of the UK’s Top 100 Gastropubs for the second consecutive year.”
