Italian wine bar and kitchen Veeno is opening a new venue at Northallerton’s Treadmills development this September, bringing authentic Sicilian food and wine to the redeveloped former prison site.
Owner and operator Chris Fernandes has acquired the franchise from Veeno founder Nino Caruso. The site will feature wines sourced directly from Nino’s family vineyard in Marsala, Sicily, served alongside artisan meat and cheese boards, fresh pasta, pizzas, and cocktails.
The opening creates around 15 new local jobs.
“I’m thrilled to be bringing Veeno to Northallerton. Treadmills is an outstanding development, and we’re proud to be part of what is becoming a fantastic destination for the town,” said Chris Fernandes.
“Northallerton has such a strong sense of community, with people who genuinely appreciate great food, drink and hospitality. We believe Veeno will be a fantastic addition to the town and we’re looking forward to welcoming guests through the doors this September.”
Veeno currently operates four UK locations alongside one venue in Poland. At the centre of the concept is the Italian tradition of aperitivo – relaxing with friends over food and wine. The wine list highlights selections from the Caruso & Minini vineyard, including Perluci (a white wine crafted from the red Perricone grape), Sirà Syrah, and Ayra, a sparkling wine made using traditional methods.
The Northallerton location will also host immersive wine-tasting experiences, including “A Trip to Sicily,” which pairs five vineyard wines with Italian sharing boards and a homemade tiramisu made from Nino’s grandmother’s original recipe.
Veeno founder Nino Caruso added: “From the very beginning, Veeno has been about sharing authentic Italian hospitality, exceptional Sicilian wines and creating places where people can come together over great food and drink. Chris shares those values completely, and we know he’ll create something truly special in Northallerton.”
Branded hoardings are currently up at the Treadmills site. Visitors who scan the QR code to register for opening updates before launch will automatically enter a competition to win a trip to Sicily, including a tour of the family vineyard in Marsala.
