Looking for somewhere to enjoy Sunday lunch in Leeds? In our opinion, Sunday lunch is the most important meal of the week. Whether you’re dining as a family, as a couple, with a group of friends or tucking into a roast alone, it provides the perfect opportunity to relax and refuel before a new week begins. Quintessentially British and oh so satisfying, the Sunday roast with all its tasty trimmings is a firm favourite for Sunday lunch and we can’t get enough.

There are numerous places in Leeds offering a Sunday lunch menu so it can be difficult to choose where to book. With this in mind, we asked local university student, Sonya Dyne, to share with us her favourite places to get Sunday lunch in Leeds. Her varied list includes somewhere to suit all budgets and caters for most weekend comfort food cravings…

Where to get Sunday Lunch in Leeds…

Shears Yard

11-15 Wharf Street, The Calls, Leeds LS2 7EH

Well known for their Sunday roasts, Shears yards is a relaxed fine-dining restaurant located just off The Calls, with a range of dishes paired perfectly with a variety of premium wines, craft beers, or carefully cultivated cocktails. Shears Yard has a contemporary vibe perfect for catching up with friends and socializing.

The Reliance

An informal pub perfect for casual get-togethers. Head over for contemporary British small plates with Italian influences such as burrata and homemade charcuterie boards, served in a relaxed environment alongside a superb range of craft beers. Their Sunday menu changes weekly as it’s dependent on what’s available but there’s always a traditional roast available alongside their main dining menu.

Ox Club

19a The Headrow, Leeds LS1 6PU

Featured in the Michelin Guide 2020 and the Good Food Guide 2020, Ox Club is an award-winning contemporary British grill restaurant based in a multi-use venue housed within a former 20th-century textile mill.

The menu is filled with both simple and imaginative dishes but it changes regularly as it is based on locally available produce. The Sunday menu often includes a delicious starter of Lindisfarne Oysters and a succulent Roast Rump Cap of Beef served with bone marrow gravy.  Ox Club boasts an excellent selection of cocktails and mocktails so wash it down with an Ox Club Bloody Mary or a non-alcoholic Peach and Yuzu Spritz.

OWT showcases quality produce available in the local area with a menu that includes the best of British cuisine. You’ll find all manner of dishes here from hearty mains to lighter bites like grilled sandwiches and indulgent chocolate cakes. Head to Owt for casual dining in a warm and comfortable environment.

Looking for something comforting and satisfying but don’t fancy a traditional roast dinner for your Sunday lunch in Leeds? This contemporary European chain serves up a plethora of mains including Buttermilk Chicken Burger with chipotle mayonnaise and a decadent Black Gold Burger with black truffle fondue and 24-carat gold flakes.

They also have a collection of different wines and beers you can choose from plus classic cocktails such as the spicy Bloody Mary and refreshing Aperol spritz.

A dining concept from chef Elizabeth Cottam serving modern British cuisine with a fine-dining flair. You can choose between a short tasting menu with 8 unique courses or their full tasting menu of 10 courses. The food style combines influences from all over the world whilst using British ingredients, mainly sourced from suppliers based in Yorkshire. There’s the option to add a wine pairing with your dishes for an additional cost.

The Whitehall Restaurant & Bar

West Point, Whitehall Rd, Leeds LS1 4JY

A more casual venue serving up the best of modern European cuisine. Their Sunday roast menu includes starters like King Scallops and French Onion Soup, and classic British mains like Roast Rump Cap of Beef, Free-range Chicken, and Roast Pork Belly.

Blackhouse Grill on The Square

31-33 E Parade, Leeds LS1 5PS

Blackhouse restaurant is known for offering up delicious steak, seafood, and cocktails. Their fixed Sunday menu allows you to choose one, two or three courses. Tuck into tasty appetizers like Peppered Lemon Calamari with Garlic Aioli before enjoying hearty mains like Garlic and Sage Rubbed Pork Loin and Drunken Roast Sirloin of Beef cooked to your preference.  They also have a wide selection of wines to pair perfectly with your Sunday roasts as well as their signature cocktails.

The Mustard Pot

20 Stainbeck Ln, Chapel Allerton, Leeds LS7 3QY

Offering award-winning food, this cosy yet vibrant restaurant serves up affordable delicious Sunday roast classics plus a number of flavourful vegetarian options, alongside an extensive range of cocktails, wine, and Cask Marque Ales.

This Georgian-style pub is perfect for a casual lunch with friends and family.

The New Conservatory

Only a 2-minute walk from Trinity Leeds, this modern British restaurant serves up excellent food, cocktails, cask ales, and craft beers. In addition to the traditional Sunday lunch offerings, here, you can sink your teeth into juicy burgers piled high with streaky bacon, cheddar cheese, and chive mayonnaise or relax with one of their fantastic stone-baked artisan pizzas.

We recommend booking in advance as the quality, locally sourced meat used in their Sunday roasts makes them incredibly popular and walk-ins aren’t guaranteed a table.

The Cosy Club

53 Albion St, Leeds LS1 5AA 

Featuring dishes inspired from around the world, The Cosy Club offers small plates for sharing and flavourful mains such as Crispy Duck Salad and Harissa Lamb Shoulder so whatever your cravings are for your Sunday lunch, they are sure to be satisfied here.

Their drinks menu includes an extensive wine list plus innovative cocktails like their delicious-sounding Cherry Bakewell

The Townhall Tavern

17 Westgate, Leeds LS1 2RA 

This historic Leeds pub, which dates back to 1926, is well known as a popular drinking and dining destination. Boasting a comfortable and casual atmosphere in which to relax with friends and family, their menu includes some of the traditional Sunday roasts plus other classic English dishes.
