There’s something uniquely magical about visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park in November and December. The Winter Illuminations event turns one of our favourite days out in Yorkshire into a dazzling display of immersive light that captures the magic of the season spectacularly.
Once the sun begins to set, you can wander along a 3km magic trail of stunning illuminated paths. This year’s theme, “Around The World in 80 Days,” brings the adventure to life with light displays representing six different continents. It’s a delightful way to explore global cultures while enjoying the festive atmosphere.
Fairground rides will add an element of fun for all ages, and there’ll be plenty of selfie spots throughout the park, perfect for capturing those special moments with family and friends.
While you stroll through the park, look out for the wildlife that makes this place so incredibly special. You won’t want to miss the park’s resident Polar Bears! The combination of festive lights and nature creates a wonderfully unique experience.
To warm up during your visit, you can enjoy a selection of seasonal treats from various stalls, with hot chocolate and festive snacks readily available.
Winter Illuminations at Stockeld Park

This enchanting event has become a family favourite, and it’s easy to see why. With an array of exciting Christmas activities, Stockeld Park is the perfect place to celebrate the festive season.
As the sun sets, the park transforms into a shimmering wonderland. Stroll along the illuminated trails, where you’ll find the popular Snowflake Maze—a thrilling quest for children as they explore and discover hidden objects, all while the maze sparkles with lights at dusk. It’s a delightful way to keep the little ones entertained!
One of the best times to visit is during Santa’s Arrival Weekend when Stockeld Park officially kicks off the Christmas festivities. This special event features Santa and Mrs. Claus taking a magical trip around the park, bringing festive cheer and officially opening the 2024 Grotto. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for Santa’s reindeer, who can be spotted in the Enchanted Forest during this delightful time.

RHS Harlow Carr will again host one of the most spectacular Christmas light trails in Yorkshire this year. Set within the serene grounds of this beautiful garden in Harrogate, GLOW promises a multisensory feast of light and music that celebrates the magic of winter.

You can fully immerse yourself in the magic of the season as you make your way through a glittering tunnel of light in the Kitchen Garden. If you’re looking for something heartier, head inside the Harrogate Arms Café to savour delicious Bratwurst and jacket potatoes.
With its magical atmosphere and breathtaking displays, GLOW 2024 at RHS Harlow Carr offers a delightful way to celebrate the season. New for 2024 is an exciting Puss in Boots theme, which children are bound to adore. The trail will explore the fascinating origin, history, and various adaptations of the beloved fairy tale, following the adventures of the clever, boot-wearing cat who helps transform the fortunes of a lowly miller’s son. The interactive light trail will bring this classic story to life, adding an extra dose of magic for young visitors.
Alongside the new theme, there are several brand-new light installations to enjoy, including a whimsical Gingerbread Lane and a stunning light tunnel—perfect for festive photos. After a spectacular debut last year, Scarborough Lights is back for its second edition, and it’s set to be bigger and brighter than ever! Running from 17th November 2024 to 2nd January 2025, this seaside town will once again transform into a magical, illuminated wonderland. With twinkling lights stretching across Scarborough’s iconic landmarks and some exciting new features, it’s a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy winter illuminations in Yorkshire.
A brand-new addition for 2024 is the South Cliffe Fire Garden, where Scarborough’s Victorian Rose Garden will be brought to life with a glowing display of 255 candles. As you stroll through the gardens, you’ll be mesmerised by the beautiful Moroccan lanterns, kaleidoscope lights, and an enchanting star walk. To make the experience even more magical, there will be live fire performances, providing captivating entertainment for visitors, alongside a delicious range of food and drink stalls to enjoy.
Scarborough’s historic landmarks will also be getting into the festive spirit, with the exterior of St. Mary’s Church set to shine in a stunning display of lights. From 1st to 24th December, streets and neighbourhoods across the town will be illuminated with festive window displays, with a different street being “opened” each evening at 4pm.
