Created by the team behind Jorvik Viking Centre, one of the finest museums in Yorkshire, this hands-on archaeology visitor attraction lets children become trainee diggers, delving into four specially designed excavation pits based on real-life digs carried out in York. Using child-friendly tools, they’ll unearth replica artefacts from Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian times, with actors and guides bringing each era to life. If you haven’t been to Web Adventure Park yet, put it at the top of your list. One of the best places in Yorkshire to spend a day with children of any age, it combines extensive indoor and outdoor play with an animal zone and 12 fairground rides. On wet days, older children can test themselves on the ninja course while younger ones let their imaginations loose in the Buggington role-play village, complete with a vet centre, DIY store, shop and cosy cottage. Babies and toddlers are catered for with a dedicated sensory play area. The outdoor areas are the main draw in summer, but there’s more than enough inside to justify a visit on a damp day.

One of the most popular family attractions near Skipton and one of the best things to do in Skipton with children, Thornton Hall Farm Park is primarily a working farm attraction, but the indoor play barn is a proper draw in its own right. World of Their Own is a completely one-of-a-kind play venue in Harrogate, and one of the most thoughtfully designed children’s experiences in Yorkshire. This immersive Wild West-themed play and dine experience takes a maximum of 18 children per session, creating an intimate, theatrical adventure that bigger soft play centres simply can’t replicate. Little ones can escape from the Sheriff’s Jail, rob the bank, mix mocktails in the Cowgirl Saloon and explore the Spooky Gold Mine, all guided by the venue’s enthusiastic ‘Deputies.’
It’s important to know that World of Their Own now operates primarily as a pre-booked experience and birthday party venue; it’s not a drop-in soft play. You won’t do everything in a single visit, which is part of the appeal. We visited FUNZY when my son was younger and had an absolute blast – that session bouncing and clambering around this incredible inflatable theme park is one that none of us will forget in a hurry. The inflatable course measures approximately 15,000 square feet and features a giant open bounce area with a surrounding inflatable obstacle course, multiple slides and a genuinely terrifying cliff-edge drop. Duck, dive, climb, and slide your way around – and if you’re anything like me, land face-first into the ball pit and require assistance getting out. There’s also a dedicated area for under-4s with interactive features suited to smaller adventurers. A brilliant snack bar serves hot dogs, slushies and more. One of the best things to do in Bradford with kids and just a two-minute walk from Bradford Interchange if you’re coming by train.

Soft play centres can be a lifesaver on a rainy day, and Big Apple Play City in Rotherham is one of the most impressive in Yorkshire. The play equipment is vast: rope bridges, climbing platforms, super slides, obstacles, ball pits and inflatables catering for children up to the age of 14, which is genuinely unusual and makes it an excellent choice for older primary-age children who’ve outgrown most soft plays. Tips For Visiting Indoor Play Centres In Yorkshire
Book ahead: Several venues on this list, particularly World of Their Own in Harrogate and Uproar! near Doncaster, operate on a pre-booked session basis and do not accept walk-ins. Always check the venue website before travelling, especially during school holidays when spaces fill up fast.
