Aldi is set to bolster its workforce in Yorkshire with the recruitment of 200 new store colleagues. This hiring initiative coincides with the implementation of the supermarket chain’s latest pay rise, which comes into effect this week.
As Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket, Aldi is looking to attract candidates with varying levels of experience for both full-time and part-time roles across the region. This recruitment drive follows the recent increase in hourly pay rates for all Aldi store colleagues in the UK.
Under the new pay structure, the hourly rate for Store Assistants has increased from £12.00 to £12.40 nationally. For those working within the M25, the rate has risen from £13.55 to £13.65. This marks the second pay rise for Aldi employees this year, bringing the total investment in pay to £79 million in 2024.
Aldi’s competitive pay rates continue to lead the sector, reinforcing its position as the highest-paying supermarket in the UK. Additionally, Aldi remains the only supermarket to offer paid breaks, which adds more than £900 annually to the average store colleague’s earnings.
Kelly Stokes, HR Director at Aldi UK, commented on the pay increase: “The roll out of our latest pay increase cements our commitment to our colleagues that we will always be the best-paying retailer. Our colleagues play an integral part in our ever-increasing popularity, and this is another way for us to acknowledge the incredible work they do every day across the UK.”
