Alton Towers Resort has officially reopened today, welcoming thrillseekers back with a brand-new attraction—Toxicator, the UK’s only topspin ride of its kind.
Standing at an impressive 78ft high, thanks to its elevated platform in Forbidden Valley, Toxicator promises an intense, high-speed spinning experience that will leave riders breathless.
To mark the occasion, Karla Doorbar, a soloist with the Birmingham Royal Ballet, became the first person outside of the park’s team to take on the ride. Given her background—having performed an estimated half a million pirouettes on some of the world’s most prestigious stages—she was the perfect candidate to put Toxicator through its paces.

Karla, who grew up in Stoke-on-Trent and has been visiting Alton Towers since childhood, described the ride as something truly unique.
“Throughout my training and career, I’ve devoted countless hours to perfecting the pirouette—whether performing on world-renowned stages or in the studio,” she said.
“It has taken immense levels of focus over many years to develop the strength and power that this entails.
“So when Alton Towers invited me to be the first to take on the unrivalled spinning power of Toxicator, I jumped at the chance. Riding it is an incredible experience and will give riders an unrivalled sense of the intense power of spin.”
A New Era of Thrills
Toxicator joins the lineup of record-breaking rides at Alton Towers, sitting alongside the newly revamped Nemesis Reborn, which reopened last year after a dramatic 18-month transformation.
With its double-sided design, green-lit water fountains, and the ability to take more than 500 riders per hour, Toxicator is set to be a must-ride for adrenaline junkies.
