A landmark Harrogate church, the former St Mary’s off Cold Bath Road, is set to go under the hammer this month with a guide price of £415,000. The Grade II listed building, a cherished part of the town’s history, will be auctioned on 10 December by SDL Property Auctions, part of Eddisons, in an online live-streamed event.
Built in 1916 and designed by renowned architect Walter Tapper in 14th-century English Gothic style, the church has stood empty since its closure as a parish in 2007. It now comes with planning consent and listed building approval for conversion into a mixed-use development, including offices, residential accommodation, and parking for 13 cars.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for an investor or developer,” said Andrew Parker, auctioneer and partner at SDL Property Auctions. “St Mary’s Church is a beautiful building, much loved by the people of Harrogate. We’re excited to see how a new owner could breathe fresh life into it, particularly in the sought-after Cold Bath Road area where the property market is thriving.”
St Mary’s is among 177 properties and land parcels featured in the auction. Prospective buyers can register to bid remotely online, by phone, or via proxy, with registration closing on 9 December.
