Leeds passengers are in for a treat as the Government’s annual Rail Sale returns with more discounts than ever before. From 14 to 20 January, millions of train tickets will be available at up to 50% off, making it the perfect time to plan journeys across the country.
This year’s sale offers huge savings on selected advance and off-peak fares for travel between 17 January and 31 March. A range of popular routes across the UK, including those from Leeds, will be available at discounted prices.
For Leeds commuters or anyone looking to explore more of the UK, this year’s sale provides fantastic value. For example, tickets for the Leeds to Manchester Airport route are available for just £5.90, down from £11.90, and a trip from Leeds to Sheffield can be snapped up for just £3.60, a significant reduction from the usual price of £7.20.
The Rail Sale follows the success of last year’s campaign, which saved passengers around £5.8m in total and resulted in an additional 440,000 journeys taken by train. With over two million discounted tickets up for grabs, the Government is encouraging passengers to act fast as these offers won’t last long and there are only a limited number of tickets available.
“We’re launching the biggest ever rail sale so more passengers can get big discounts on train tickets to visit destinations across the country,” said Secretary of State Heidi Alexander. “Whether you’re planning a getaway or wanting to visit friends or family, this sale offers huge reductions on all sorts of journeys. Make the most of this sale, get your tickets while you can!”
The Rail Sale will benefit passengers across the UK, offering discounts on a wide range of routes. For instance, a journey from Leeds to Manchester could cost as little as £9.20, compared to the usual price of £18.50. These kinds of savings encourage more people to travel by train, offering both value and convenience.
The sale also aligns with the Government’s ongoing efforts to improve the rail network and put passengers at the heart of services. As part of the largest overhaul of the railways in a generation, the creation of Great British Railways will bring track and train services under one roof, focused on improving customer experiences.
“We’re always looking for ways to improve services and get more people on the railways,” said Jacqueline Starr, Chief Executive of Rail Delivery Group. “Rail travel is about more than just getting from A to B – it’s about connecting people, communities, and opportunities together.”
With trains remaining one of the quickest and most sustainable modes of transport, this year’s sale is part of the Government’s drive to cut carbon emissions and reduce congestion on the roads.
The Rail Sale will allow passengers in Leeds, and across the UK, to take advantage of affordable travel options and explore the country’s many destinations. Whether it’s visiting family, friends, or simply exploring new places, the sale is an excellent opportunity to save money on rail journeys.
