Leeds Taekwondo Star Set for Bright Future with New Sponsorship

Since his first National Championships in 2018, aged just 8, William Burleigh has quickly made a name for himself in the Taekwondo world, racking up a medal cabinet full of victories from competing across the world.

Having been selected to represent the GB team on four separate occasions over the years, Will now steps up into the next age category as he sets his sights on earning team status in the GB Junior Development Squad.

Caddick’s £3k sponsorship package will allow Will to continue competing across the world, gaining the points necessary to retain his GB team status, which Will’s mum Vicki says wouldn’t be possible without Caddick’s support.

Speaking of his new sponsorship, Will comments:

“I was first selected to represent team GB in July 2022 and made the Cadet GB team in 2023, and since then I’ve been really determined to compete at the highest level and give it my all. I’m really grateful to Caddick for the sponsorship; it’s a great feeling to have somebody back you like this and not many athletes get this opportunity, especially in Taekwondo and other martial art sports.”

Paul Dodsworth, Caddick Construction Group MD, comments:

“Will is a truly inspirational and dedicated young man and we are honoured to be a part of his story and help him keep on doing what he loves, and support him as he rises through the ranks. Each competition has entry fees, international travel and all the kit that comes with it; this all adds up and we hope this sponsorship lets Will grab hold of all the opportunities that come his way and earn that place on the GB Junior Development Squad. We wish him all the best.”

Will’s coach, Rich Fairhurst at Black Widow Taekwondo club, comments:

“Will won a bronze medal at the 2023 under 15s European Championships, the only British Athlete to do so, and was also British Champion, but it’s very clear that this is not enough for Will. He is self driven and is constantly looking to better himself and actively looks for challenging situations in order to develop. He has clear goals set out for 2024 and beyond and sees each opportunity as a step along the way towards reaching them. As national team coach, it’s refreshing to work with someone who isn’t looking to settle for good and seeks out being the very best that he can be, every time. It’s exciting working with Will and helping him along his athlete journey.”
