Martin House Children’s Hospice has reached a major milestone in its £21.9 million transformation project, THE BUILD, with the opening of a new nine-bed children’s wing at its Boston Spa site.
Designed to provide a “home from home” environment while meeting complex clinical needs, the new wing features nine enchanted forest-themed bedrooms, each equipped with piped oxygen, integrated hoists, and access to a private garden. Communal spaces, including an art room, playroom, lounge, and dining area, have been created to offer holistic care for children and their families.

A cooled bedroom suite has also been introduced, providing a space for families to spend time with their child after death and receive emotional support.
The opening comes as the charity announces it has raised £1 million towards its £2 million public fundraising target for THE BUILD. Clair Holdsworth, Chief Executive of Martin House, said, “Reaching the milestone of opening the new children’s wing is a monumental achievement for Martin House, and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported us to get to this point. We are looking forward to delivering care in the new children’s wing, which has all the modern facilities we need to provide outstanding, specialist care to children with life-limiting conditions.”

The next phase of THE BUILD will focus on a dedicated teenagers’ wing, designed for privacy and independence, with its own Love Island-style outdoor courtyard. Plans also include a new education and wellbeing centre, featuring a hydrotherapy pool and improved facilities to meet the growing needs of children and young people in care.

Holdsworth added, “We still need the support of communities across Yorkshire to help us complete this ambitious and vital project, so we can be here delivering the care families desperately need.”
