Animal lovers are being given the unique opportunity to step into the wellies of a real farmer this summer, thanks to a brand-new experience launching near Thirsk.
Monk Park Farm, a popular family-run farm attraction, has unveiled its latest hands-on animal encounter: an exclusive Pig Keeper Experience. The new addition offers guests a rare opportunity to go entirely behind the scenes and discover what it truly takes to care for some of the farm’s most popular and intelligent residents.
During the one-hour private session, participants work directly alongside one of Monk Park Farm’s experienced farmers, learning the ins and outs of daily care, feeding, and welfare for both adult pigs and piglets.
The experience kicks off with a mandatory safety briefing before guests head straight into the pig pens to help prepare specialised feeds, create enrichment activities, and make tasty treats designed to keep the animals active, healthy, and entertained.
Providing a genuine insight into daily agricultural life, participants also help with standard husbandry tasks, including mucking out pens and laying down fresh bedding. Once the manual work is complete, guests are rewarded with quality time spent interacting directly with the pigs. From hand-feeding treats and brushing their coats to giving belly scratches and helping apply skin oils, visitors can get up close to the animals while learning all about their unique personalities.
“Pigs are often one of the most misunderstood animals on the farm, but they’re incredibly intelligent, curious and affectionate,” said Natalie Fennell, Events Administrator at Monk Park Farm. “This experience gives guests a chance to see first-hand just how much care goes into looking after them, while also creating some really special memories with the animals.”
As an added bonus, the Pig Keeper Experience package includes full-day admission to Monk Park Farm, allowing participants to explore all of the site’s standard attractions and activities either before or after their designated private slot.
The launch follows a series of successful animal encounters at the destination and forms part of Monk Park Farm’s continued investment in unique, educational, and highly interactive visitor experiences.
