Recovering Drug Addict Takes the Plunge with 60-Hour Bathtub Challenge in Leeds

A recovering drug addict from Leeds is preparing to spend up to 60 hours sitting in a bathtub in Leeds City Square to highlight the determination and community support needed to beat addiction.

Chris Sylvester, founder of Leeds-based social enterprise Getting Clean CIC, will stage the ‘TUBtrap’ challenge from 7th to 9th August 2026. The campaign invites local businesses and the public to raise £50,000 through soap sales, which will unlock an additional £20,000 donation for a lived-experience recovery project delivered alongside Forward Leeds.

Getting Clean manufactures handmade soap and currently employs six people in recovery from its base in Armley. The Community Interest Company donates 50% of its profits to organisations supporting recovering addicts across the UK. The team recently completed a one-week pop-up at John Lewis in Leeds, selling nearly 1,000 bars of soap.

Chris Sylvester said: “Getting Clean began as a small group of people in recovery picking litter and planting trees in Leeds. Today we have built a sustainable social enterprise that creates jobs, funds peer-led recovery and shows that people with lived experience are not defined by their past, but by the contribution they make to their communities.

“Businesses have a unique opportunity to help us prove that doing good and doing business can go hand in hand. By purchasing soap or funding pay-it-forward packs, organisations can support practical recovery pathways built on giving recovering addicts employment, dignity and the guidance of people who have walked the same path.”

The social enterprise encourages regional businesses to participate by purchasing corporate gifts, bulk orders, stocking products, or funding “First Day Packs” for individuals entering treatment or leaving prison.

Delivered in partnership with Leeds City Council, TUBtrap runs continuously from midday on Friday, 7th August until midnight on Sunday, 9th August 2026, or until the £50,000 sales target is met. The team will stream the full event live on TikTok via @gettingcleansoap while welcoming supporters in person at City Square.
