New Zealand adventure tourism operator Skyline Enterprises is advancing plans to transform the former ski village site at Parkwood Springs into a major leisure development, with a full planning application expected later this year.
Skyline has agreed a strategic framework with Sheffield City Council to unlock the long-derelict site, located one mile north of Sheffield city centre.
The proposed development will move forward in multiple phases. The initial phase features Skyline’s signature gravity-fed downhill karting attraction (Luge), alongside a family playground, food and beverage venues, and an indoor attraction. Long-term concepts for future phases include a zipline, a surf wave experience, and potential dry ski slopes.
A public consultation on the proposals will launch in September, allowing local residents, businesses, and stakeholders to review the plans and submit feedback.
The scheme aims to improve connections between Parkwood Springs, Neepsend, and Kelham Island. It runs alongside a £19 million Government Levelling Up grant secured by Sheffield City Council to deliver a new access road, junction upgrades, and site improvements to support future traffic flow.

Skyline has appointed leisure development specialists Omisa Ltd as project management partners, alongside engineering firms Willis Hazell Engineers, Patersons, and Griffith Evans. Several Sheffield-based businesses are also leading the project delivery, including Hadfield Cawkwell Davidson (architects), Ares (landscape architects), Weddles (environmental), Urbana (planning), and Counter Context (communications).
