Mike Parkinson, the youngest son of the late Sir Michael Parkinson, is set to host a one-off tribute to the life and career of the iconic Cudworth-born broadcaster at Barnsley Civic on Friday 25 April 2025. The event will be a heartfelt and engaging celebration of Sir Michael’s legacy, with all proceeds from the show going to support the local community through Barnsley Civic’s work.
Having worked alongside his father for over 20 years, Mike will offer an intimate and revealing insight into Sir Michael’s life. The show, titled Parky on Parky, will feature memorable clips from the Parkinson archive, including famous interviews with the likes of Billy Connolly, Dame Edna Everage, Lauren Bacall, George Best, and Meg Ryan. Alongside these, Mike will share personal anecdotes and reflections, providing an often surprising and thoughtful look into what made Sir Michael tick as both a man and a journalist.

“It’s an honour to bring this tribute to Barnsley Civic, a place my dad loved,” said Mike Parkinson. “In 2015, my dad and I performed a show here, and he was so taken with the experience that he promised to return to raise funds for this wonderful venue. While I’m returning without him, I’m proud to fulfil his promise and continue supporting the venue that meant so much to him.”
Sir Michael Parkinson was a proud patron of Barnsley Civic up until his death in 2023 and frequently graced its stage for various events. Dan Winder, CEO at Barnsley Civic, said, “It’s really wonderful to host this unique celebration of the life of one of Yorkshire’s greatest people. We are particularly honoured that his son, Mike, has chosen to work with us on this event as a fundraiser for Barnsley Civic, a venue that Michael Parkinson himself loved.”
Tickets for Parky on Parky are now on sale, starting at £22.50. They can be purchased via the Barnsley Civic website, by phone, or in person at the Eldon Street box office. This special one-night-only event promises to be a memorable evening, offering fans a chance to celebrate the legacy of a true national treasure while supporting a local cause.
