The Grand, York has just bagged the Independent Hotel of the Year title in the Over 50 Rooms category at this year’s Independent Hotel Show Awards.
Picked from hundreds of nominations, the five-star favourite landed a spot on a tight five-hotel shortlist before taking the main prize at Olympia London. The awards celebrate the very best independent stays, design quality, and rising talent in UK hospitality.
Industry heavyweights judged the competition, with a panel featuring senior figures from The AA, the Institute of Hospitality, Boutique Hotelier, PoB Hotels, and Hospitality Action.
Set inside one of York’s most iconic historic buildings, the hotel packs in 207 rooms, a state-of-the-art Cookery School, and the newly opened SubRosa Spa, which holds a Five Bubble Luxury rating from the Good Spa Guide. Guests can also enjoy fine dining at Legacy, a three AA rosette restaurant led by Michelin-experienced Culinary Director Kevin Bonello. The restaurant plans to launch a brand-new dining concept this November that highlights Yorkshire produce, provenance, and craftsmanship.
“It’s such an honour to have been shortlisted alongside the brilliant hotels in our category and even more so to take home the award for Independent Hotel of the Year. We’re absolutely delighted,” said Adam Dyke, General Manager of The Grand, York. “It’s a credit to the whole team, who work incredibly hard every single day, and a testament to the strength of Yorkshire hospitality. Regarded by many within the industry as one of the highest accolades an independent hotel can receive, I’m extremely proud to accept it on behalf of The Grand family.”
