Triple Win for Calderdale as Three Local Parks Retain International Green Flag Awards

Three of Calderdale’s most beautiful public parks have successfully retained their prestigious Green Flag Awards, securing their status among the premier managed green spaces in the world. Centre Vale Park in Todmorden, Manor Heath Park and the Jungle Experience in Halifax, and the historic Shibden Estate, also in Halifax, have all been awarded the international quality mark.

The accolades recognise the year-round dedication of Calderdale Council’s maintenance teams, alongside the invaluable efforts of local community groups and volunteers who help keep the sites thriving. During the assessment process, the parks highly impressed the independent judges, who praised their excellent layout, well-kept facilities, and high standards of safety and security.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Services, Councillor Peter Hunt, said: “Our parks and green spaces are valuable places where we can enjoy activities such as walks, picnics, sports or child’s play. Ensuring these facilities are kept to a high standard is incredibly important to us, and I know a lot of hard work goes into making sure they’re well maintained and available for everyone to enjoy.”

Councillor Hunt commented: “I’m delighted that three of our parks have been recognised with a Green Flag award. It’s a fantastic achievement and rewards the efforts of our staff and passionate volunteers that support our parks with tasks like maintenance, plant growing, events, repairs, safety assessments and much more.”

The announcement of the awards arrives just ahead of Love Parks Week, a national campaign celebrating public green spaces and the dedicated people who look after them. In support of the campaign, Calderdale Council is encouraging residents to share photos of their favourite local parks on social media and take time to enjoy the outdoors.

The local authority is also reminding visitors to help preserve these award-winning spaces by disposing of litter responsibly and preventing issues such as dog fouling, ensuring the parks remain clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.
