Trading Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from December to mid April
With just three weeks left until Christmas, there isn’t really a great deal of time left to complete your Christmas shopping. Skipton has no shortage of wonderful independent shops offering all kinds of treats and trinkets, perfect for placing under the Christmas tree or popping in a stocking. However, the town’s award-winning high street market is also a great place to find gifts your loved ones will be delighted with. One particular stall is ProCanvasStudio. Owned and managed by Aimee and Mike, this independent business will transform your smartphone snaps into beautiful canvas prints, while you wait!
Cameras on smartphones aren’t quite what they used to be. When the first ones hit the market, we were amazed that the device we used for communication could also be used to take photos. Back then, the quality of the produced images was attrocious and they could be used only for personal viewing. Since advances in technology have improved the camera quality on smartphones people are constantly snapping away but, how many of these images get printed? With most people’s images remaining in a digital format and being taken purely for social media upload, there surely has to have been a considerable decline in photo printing. Gone are the days when you’d pop your films or disposables into the local photo printing shop and have to wait a week to see if your captured images are even worth keeping. Now, we take them, see them andthen upload them directly to digital albums.
Thanks to ProCanvasStudio, you can pop up to their stall outside the Skipton branch of House of Fraser and they’ll take an image direct from your phone and turn it into a piece that can be displayed on you wall at home. Far better than sitting in your phone’s gallery for months on end without being enjoyed! If you have a particular photo on your mobile phone that you know a loved one will adore, why not head down to see these guys and turn it into a Christmas gift?
Aimee and Mike are now in their 4th year of trading and have twice won the Skipton Business Award for “Best Market Stall”. As part of our We Love Skipton campaign, we spoke to the clever couple to find out more about their business….
What services do you offer at Pro Canvas and what’s the waiting time for your canvas prints?
At Pro Canvas we produce high-quality pine gallery canvas prints. Our prices start at just £25 and they take us 15/20 minutes to produce. We also do all the editing of the images to get the best out of the customer’s photos before we transfer them to canvas.
How did Pro Canvas Studio come about?
We both come from printing backgrounds as it was part of both of our previous jobs. We are both experienced in printing but wanted to start our own business and take the process mobile. Originally the concept was to visit small towns and villages that didn’t have easy access to this kind of service. From there it developed to town markets and events.
Why did you choose to trade on Skipton Market?
Luckily for us we live in Skipton and it just so happens to have one of the best and well-known markets in the UK. It’s a really great home base for us to trade from.
Skipton market has won numerous awards over the years and tourists flock here by the coach load to use it. Why do you think this is?
Skipton as a whole is a very picturesque town with plenty to see and do. The market complements this and has a wide variety of traders, offering a diverse range of great products and excellent service.
What would you say to locals who don’t use Skipton Market? How important is it for local residents to support our market traders?
Like all markets and high streets across the UK, individual shops and traders are struggling as they’re having to compete with faceless online competitors.
We feel very passionate about shopping with and supporting local independent businesses as the money that you spend at these is more likely to be spent locally again.
Skipton is a Market town and a year-round one at that. Without supporting the market and keeping it local we will only lose it. The coaches come on trips to Skipton Market and make use of everything in town. So without the support of local people the market can’t keep thriving and supporting our wonderful little town.
This article is part of our We Love Skipton campaign, launched to promote and support some of the independent businesses in the North Yorkshire market town. Prior to launch, we joined forces with some of these businesses to offer our readers the chance to win a selection of goodies and gift vouchers worth over £200. Our Skipton hamper competition ends this weekend so if you haven’t entered yet, you can ENTER HERE now.
