We Love Skipton: The Albion Pub

The Albion Pub on Skipton’s Otley Street is one of the town’s best-loved boozers! Owned and run by Sera Brook alongside her husband, Andrew, it offers a warm welcome, homecooked food, live entertainment and some cracking beer. Sera and Andrew both possess vast amounts of experience in the industry – Sera has previously run establishments in nearby Keighley and as far away as Crete. Andrew spent many years working as a Senior Technician for a leading drinks dispense service. Since taking over The Albion in Skipton nine years ago, the couple have turned this traditional pub into one of Skipton’s most popular locals.

Sera said: “Being a Skipton girl, having our own place was something that was bound to happen and I’m so very pleased and proud of our little boozer. We work hard to keep it clean, safe and happy whilst maintaining great customer service alongside great tasting beer and food. “

Behind the bar at The Albion, you’ll find 4 beers on rotation, an excellent selection of reasonably priced wines and bottled drinks plus, an extensive range of Sera’s favourite tipple – Gin! If you’re wanting to try something a bit different, Sera is happy to share her knowledge of the UK’s current most popular spirit and find you your perfect gin and mixer combination.

Sera and Andrew’s hardwork and consistently good customer service has been recognised on numerous occasions by various industry bodies and awards. They’re casque mark approved, have a well earned spot in the British Real Ale Guide, hold the current title for “Best Pub in Skipton and Beyond” and in April 2019 they were voted as the CAMRA Community Pub of the Year. The Albion is also Best Bar None approved.

The team at The Albion are always grateful for these recognitions and for the support they receive from the local community. They try their utmost to offer just as much in return through sponsorships and charity support. They are currently sponsoring Sam Boatwright during his epic challenges, Andrew Whitley at Skipton Rugby Club and have just been award the centenary cup from Skipton Cricket Club for their ongoing support as the main sponsor.

Sera, The Albion’s super friendly landlady spends most of her time running the family pub, whilst Andrew works as a self-employed Dispense Technician and general handyman. His wide range of skills have undoubtedly been a great asset to the business, and are evident in the pub’s stunning beer garden which he himself transformed.

“It is through Andrews skills that the Albion beer garden is as inviting as it is, having built the decking area and the sheds for customers to enjoy.”

Sera’s extensive experience within the hospitality sector led her to create an atmosphere that is not only welcoming, but widely inclusive. Their popular menu of British classics is served daily from 12 pm until 6 pm and they cater for all dietary requirements, intolerances, and preferences. They also have a separate children’s menu and allow little ones on the premises until 8 pm. After 5 pm, when the majority of the pub’s diners have finished their grub, customers are welcome to bring in their dogs. The team at The Albion love nothing more than a furry four-legged visitor!

The Albion is also known locally for their fantasic evening entertainment. They have live music on the 3rd Friday of each month, an immensely popular karaoke night on the last Friday of each month and a free pub quiz every Wednesday evening, during which participants all receive a free homecooked supper. Whether you’re looking for a quiet couple of pints after work, a good old Yorkshire pub lunch or a night out with friends, it really is well worth paying a visit to this excellent Skipton pub.

“There are so many great other places to eat and drink locally. In this day and age of change, it’s not always easy to make a living and we’re very thankful to our customers for their continued support. Its our mantra, we believe, that keeps us as one of the nicest kept pubs in Skipton. Come as a stranger, Leave as a friend.”

This article is part of our We Love Skipton campaign – launched to promote and support all the wonderful independent businesses the town has to offer. Don’t forget to enter our Skipton competition, to be in with a chance of winning a selection of Skipton goodies worth over £200!
