WATCH: A Video Tour of York in the 1930s

Considered by many to be the most beautiful city in Yorkshire, the City of York dates back over 2,000 years. In this delightful little video from the British Pathe archives, you can see what the city centre looked like during the 1930s.

The video visits various historical landmarks in York and offers numerous facinating facts about the history of this remarkable city. The most iconic buildings and landmarks in York are considerably old and have been well maintained over the years. You won’t notice too many structural changes to the most iconic buildings but what you will see in this nostalgic piece of footage, is a much quieter and slower paced York. Today, the city attracts a phenomenal number of tourists each year so the city centre streets are rarely quiet during the daytime.
