Finding activities that genuinely appeal to older kids and teenagers, without anyone being bored within the first twenty minutes and ideally without spending a small fortune, is one of parenting’s more specific challenges. Leeds, fortunately, is very good at this. The city has a brilliant spread of activity venues that hit the sweet spot between being too young and not suitable for under-18s, and in 2026 the offer is better than it has ever been.

King Pins
White Rose Shopping Centre, Dewsbury Road, Leeds LS11 8LU
Best for: Ages 8 and up
We visited King Pins at White Rose recently with our 12-year-old and had a brilliant day. It’s one of those places that genuinely exceeds expectations. Given that food at activity venues can so often be an afterthought, we were pleasantly surprised to find the pizzas not just decent but thoroughly enjoyable. My 12-year-old couldn’t get enough of them.
The highlight of the visit was definitely Crazy Pool, which is exactly what it sounds like: crazy golf played with pool cues and balls across a brilliantly designed course. We also loved the tech darts and the bowling, and there is plenty more besides: duck pin bowling (smaller balls, perfect if younger siblings are along for the ride), shuffleboard, shooting pods, karaoke booths, and a full arcade. The whole place is well-maintained, and the team are friendly and efficient. This one’s certainly the kind of venue where a couple of hours disappear without anyone looking at their phone.
Booking in advance is recommended, particularly at weekends and during school holidays.
Lane7
Grand Arcade, Leeds LS1 6PG
Best for: Ages 12 and up (under-18s welcome until 7pm)
One of the most versatile activity venues in Leeds city centre and a brilliant choice for teenagers who want something with a bit more edge than a standard bowling alley. Lane7 combines boutique bowling with ping pong, beer pong, karaoke booths, and a well-stocked bar. The lanes themselves are beautifully fitted out with a retro-cool aesthetic that teenagers actually appreciate. Under-18s are welcome until 7pm during daytime visits, giving a good window for an early afternoon session. Booking ahead is again strongly recommended, particularly at weekends.
Junkyard Golf
The Light, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 8TL
Best for: Ages 10 and up (daytime); 18+ evenings
Three completely chaotic 9-hole crazy golf courses built from salvaged scrap, each with its own theme, soundtrack, and bar. Junkyard Golf is one of the most reliably fun venues in Leeds for a mixed-age group, and unlike many activity venues, it genuinely works for older kids too. Teenagers love the irreverence of it. Under-18s are welcome during daytime sessions (before 6pm), while evenings are strictly 18+. The loaded fries are well worth ordering.
Big Depot Leeds
Gelderd Road, Leeds LS12 6DT
Best for: Ages 10 and up (under-16s must be supervised by an adult)
One of the most underrated venues in Leeds and, for the right teenager (definitely not mine), one of the most exciting. Big Depot on Gelderd Road is one of the largest indoor climbing centres in the region, offering high-wall roped climbing, auto-belays, and bouldering across a massive, recently rebuilt facility. It is far more accessible to beginners than it looks, as first-timers can book introductory sessions with an instructor to get on the wall safely within their first hour. For teenagers who like a physical challenge or simply want something completely different, this is one of the best options in the city.
Ninja Warrior UK Leeds
Ramshead Approach, Seacroft, Leeds LS14 1NH
Best for: Ages 10 – 16
Inspired by the TV show and brilliant for the right age group. The obstacle courses, warped walls, giant pendulums, and timed runs at Ninja Warrior UK Leeds are perfectly calibrated for the 10- 16 age bracket, being old enough to tackle them properly and young enough to find them genuinely thrilling. Under-12s require adult supervision, which actually makes for a surprisingly fun shared experience. Book ahead for weekends and school holidays.
Tick Tock Unlock Escape Rooms
Merrion House, 110 Merrion Centre, Leeds LS2 8BB
Best for: Ages 12 and up
One of the most consistently praised escape room venues in Leeds, featuring multiple themed rooms across different difficulty levels that suit first-timers and experienced players alike. Groups of 4 to 6 work best. The team are notably good at calibrating the difficulty to the group, which makes it far more enjoyable than venues where the difficulty is fixed. Book well in advance as popular slots sell out quickly.
Royal Armouries Museum
Armouries Drive, Leeds LS10 1LT
Best for: All ages, particularly compelling from age 10 upwards
Free to enter and a much better teenager option than most parents expect. We’ve been a few times over the years, and we always seem to spot something fascinating that we previously missed. The collections spanning medieval armour, jousting, firearms, and oriental weaponry are wonderfully dramatic, while live demonstrations and handling sessions make it an active rather than passive experience. The blockbuster Genghis Khan: How the Mongols Changed the World exhibition brings an extraordinary extra draw, featuring 250 rare artefacts from Mongolia’s national collections, many never before seen in the UK.
Xscape Yorkshire
Colorado Way, Castleford WF10 4TA
Best for: All ages, with an activity range that suits tweens and teens particularly well
Technically just outside Leeds in Castleford but close enough (around 20 minutes) to absolutely justify the trip. Under one enormous roof, you’ll find indoor skiing and snowboarding, trampolining, indoor climbing, laser tag, adventure golf, bowling, and a cinema. The indoor ski slope is the standout for teenagers – brilliant for beginners taking a first lesson or more confident skiers wanting a session without travelling to the Alps.
It’s a cracking option if you have a group with different interests and cannot agree on one thing. This has been one of our favourite places for family outings since my son was little – there’s just so much to do, and there are plenty of food options too. Highly recommend taking the short stroll across to Junction 32 for a browse of the Cadbury shop!
Arcade Club Leeds
Abbey Retail Park, Kirkstall Rd, Leeds LS5 3BL
Best for: Ages 10 and up
For teenagers who love retro and modern gaming, Arcade Club on Kirkstall Road is an absolute dream. Across multiple floors packed with classic arcade machines, pinball, modern Japanese imports, and console setups, a single entry ticket gives unlimited play all day with no coins required. Under-18s are welcome during daytime sessions when accompanied by an adult, making it a fantastic, budget-friendly afternoon out. I took my son here for his 10th birthday, and he had a brilliant time trying out all the old games.
Laser Quest Leeds
Cardigan Fields, Kirkstall Road, Leeds LS4 2DH
Best for: Ages 8 and up
A classic for a reason. Laser Quest at Cardigan Fields in Leeds remains one of the most popular activity choices for birthday parties and group outings with older kids and teenagers, combining physical activity with competition in a way that most age groups genuinely enjoy. Multiple game formats keep things interesting beyond a single visit, and the Cardigan Fields location offers ample free parking. Book in advance for weekends.

- Booking ahead: Essential for King Pins, Lane7, Tick Tock Unlock, and Ninja Warrior, particularly during school holidays and at weekends. Most venues now operate advance online booking and do not guarantee walk-in spaces on busy days.
- Getting there: Leeds city centre venues are within easy walking distance of Leeds City Station. King Pins at White Rose, Laser Quest at Cardigan Fields, and Xscape Yorkshire are better reached by car or bus, with free parking available on site.
- Age restrictions: Venues like Lane7 and Junkyard Golf operate adult-only policies in the evenings. If you are planning a late afternoon or evening visit, check the specific cut-off policy before booking.
- Budget: The Royal Armouries is free and genuinely excellent. For a full activity session with food, budget £25 – £40 per teenager at most venues on this list. Xscape can cost more depending on the activities chosen.
