York Property Owner Shares Top Dog-Friendly Pubs and Green Spaces for Autumn

A local property expert has revealed a selection of lesser-known dog-friendly pubs, scenic walking routes, and quiet green spaces across York for pet owners visiting the city this autumn.

Jerry Rebbeck, local expert from holiday letting agency Wheelwrights York, highlighted several spots off the main tourist trail where visitors can explore with their dogs.

Among his pub recommendations are The Cross Keys on Goodramgate and The Ackhorne on St Martin’s Lane – a historic pub tucked down a cobbled alleyway off Micklegate that provides treats and water bowls for four-legged guests.

For walking routes, Jerry recommends swapping busy central streets for riverside walks along the River Ouse toward the Millennium Bridge, as well as the open grasslands of Clifton Ings and The Knavesmire.

“There’s lots to explore when visiting York, and if you’re bringing along your furry friend, it’s important to know where you can take them,” Jerry said. He noted quieter green spaces like Rowntree Park (where dogs are welcome on leads) and Homestead Park, which features woodland walks, a wildflower meadow, public water bowls, and an on-site cafe.

For city centre activities, Rebbeck highlighted daytime sightseeing river cruises, self-drive electric boat rentals, night-time ghost walks around Grape Lane, and York’s inaugural city-centre dog show, taking place on Sunday 20 September 2026 at Museum Gardens.
