The Scotland, Birstall

The Scotland is a lively community pub in Birstall with a huge amount of outdoor space. Sadly, they don’t offer food every day but often host excellent family events in their extensive beer garden, during which they serve food in collaboration with local caterers. If looking for somewhere to relax with a drink or two whilst the kids play safely, this is a great one to consider. The play equipment here is a little different to most on our list and provides plenty of opportunities to swing, slide, climb and balance. Dogs are also welcome if kept on leads.
The Rustic Arms, Ackworth

Set on an acre of land, The Rustic Arms is a gorgeous country pub with an extensive food menu, a large beer garden and enough play equipment to occupy the kids for an hour or two. Currently served Wednesday to Saturday, their main menu features pub classics like Steak & Ale Pie, Fish & Chips and Lasagne plus salads, pizzas, burgers, foot-long hotdogs, hanging kebabs and much more.
Kids can eat for £5.95 and their options include Margherita Pizza, Turkey Dinosaurs, Fish Fingers and Chicken Breast all available with a range of sides. This place also does great desserts that children and adults will both adore. There are the old favourites like Jam Roly Poly and Sticky Toffee Pudding plus Ice Cream Sundaes plus waffles and cookie dough loaded with ice cream and a choice of tasty toppings. The Pledwick Well Inn, Newmillerdam

The Pledwick is a Gastropub located on the outskirts of Newmillerdam. The food here is superb and their vast outdoor seating area provides plenty of grass for little feet to run about on plus some excellent play equipment for them to clamber and climb over. On warm days, The Pledwick’s beer garden is more like a park but with the added bonus of being able to order excellent food and a wide selection of drinks.
The food at The Pledwick is a little pricier than it is at many of the venues on this list but you certainly get what you pay for. There are loads of delicious-sounding dishes to choose from on their a la carte menu like Slow Cooked Belly Pork, Peanutless Chicken Satay, Hake and Chorizo Kviv and Beer Battered North Sea Haddock. Their lunch menu includes a range of Tapas style dishes which are perfect for al fresco dining and those who simply want a sandwich won’t be disappointed with the selection available.
Kids’ main courses are priced at £6.50 and they can choose from a Mini Beef Burger, Mini Vegan Burger, Chicken Goujons or Fish Goujons. You’ll find The Myrtle Tavern in the city suburb of Meanwood. It has one of the best beer gardens in Leeds so it’s a super popular venue during the warmer months. In addition to lots of lovely lawned land scattered with picnic benches for drinkers and diners, it also boasts a fantastic enclosed children’s play area. The wooden play equipment features swings, slides, lookout towers and plenty of things to climb on so plenty to keep the little ones occupied whilst you enjoy a drink in the sun.
Diners can eat in their comfortable indoor dining area, in their large marquee or outside on their terrace. Those dining in the pub can choose from a selection of light bites, sharing plates and hearty main courses with prices ranging between £6.50 (Greek Salad) and £14.50 (Homemade Steak and Guinness Pie). Those eating on the terrace or in the marquee can choose from a separate menu which includes sharing plates, salads, burgers and bar bites. The beer garden is for drinking only so be sure to book ahead to secure a table in the pub or marquee if hoping to eat during your visit.

The Beck and Call is a friendly local pub boasting stylish interiors and offering fantastic menus of home-cooked grub. Their main menu is served Monday to Saturday and includes a nice variety of main dishes like Sausages & Mash, Honey Glazed Pork Chop, Mixed Grill, Cheddar & Onion Pie plus burgers, salads and some rather scrummy sounding small plates. The pub underwent a significant refurbishment in 2013 so it’s lovely inside and out. Although it isn’t one of the pubs in Yorkshire with outdoor play areas that offer a huge amount of play equipment there’s enough to allow smaller children to play happily for a while. There are also plenty of tables in close proximity to the play area from which parents can keep a watchful eye.
Diners can choose traditional starters, mains and sandwiches from their main menu or opt for one of their 8″ or 12″ stonebaked pizzas which are available with lots of Italian toppings. On warmer days, families may wish to book one of their BBQ packages so they can enjoy burgers, sausages, chicken, salads and more in their dedicated BBQ area. With a wonderful array of cask ales available behind the bar and space for the kids to play, it’s a great way to spend a sunny afternoon!

This independently owned pub and restaurant near York has a stunning lawned beer garden featuring a fantastic children’s play enclosure. As far as pubs in Yorkshire with outdoor play areas go, The Lysander Arms is one of the best as regards to size and quality of play equipment. The colourful play area includes slides, tunnels, climbing nets, lookout towers and more so kids will no doubt be reluctant to leave!
When it comes to food, The Lysander Arms serves a great menu of dishes made using locally sourced produce. The indoor dining space is beautifully decorated with polished wooden tables, plush carpets and a rainbow of pastel-coloured soft furnishings. The food served here is way better than your standard pub grub and the menu features both perfectly cooked classics and creative, internationally inspired delights. Adults can indulge in tasty mains like Ribeye Steak with Rosemary & Thyme Potato Wedges, Ndjuja King Prawn Fettuccini and Grilled Garlic Lamb Cutlets or opt for something light like a generously filled sandwiched or selection of small plates.
The kids’ menu is also really good with lots of options for little ones. The Ship Inn, Strensall

The Ship has sat in the pretty village of Strensall since the 1800s and is as popular with holidaymakers as it is with local residents. The family-run pub serves every day except for Tuesdays and their menu features all the pub classics like Steak & Ale Pie, Fish & Chips and Wholetail Scampi plus a couple of tasty burgers. The kids’ menu here is really reasonably priced at just £4.59 for main courses like Chicken Nuggets, Battered Haddock and Beefburgers. Particularly hungry youngsters can add a starter of Yorkshire Pudding and Gravy or Cheesy Nachos or a dessert of Chocolate Brownie or Ice Cream for £2.50 each.
Again, this place has a lovely beer garden with a patio and a grassed area also. The play equipment is quite large so there’s plenty of room for a number of children to run, climb and slide together quite happily. Children are welcome inside and out but must vacate the premises by 8 pm.
The Gamekeeper’s Inn, Threshfield

The Gamekeeper’s Inn is set in the heart of the glorious Yorkshire Dales and boasts a superb reputation. Known locally for its warm hospitality, idyllic location and seasonal menus of locally sourced food, this Yorkshire dales pub should definitely be on your Yorkshire bucket list!
Prices on the All-Day menu at The Gamekeeper’s Inn range between £3.25 (Garlic Flatbread) and £7.25 (King Prawn Bruschetta) for starters, £12.95 (Pork Louisiana Burger) and £23.95 (Yorkshire Rib-Eye) for mains and there are a number of delicious desserts priced at £6.25 each. Children can choose mains such as Fish & Chips, Penne Carbonara and Cheeseburger with chips for £6.50 and can add a dessert for £1.95. If you’re visiting at lunchtime and would prefer something less substantial then they have a menu of light buts and sandwiches available Monday to Friday between 12 pm and 3 pm.
The Gamekeeper’s Inn also serves one of the best afternoon teas in Skipton and these are perfect for al fresco dining. Their fantastic children’s play area is right outside the restaurant too so you won’t need to venture far with full tummies to let the kids have some outdoor fun.
The Plough Inn, Scarbororough

Kids will absolutely adore this pub near Scarborough! The Plough Inn is one of the only pubs in Yorkshire with outdoor play areas and a brilliant indoor soft play area. Popular with locals for birthday parties, the fun farm at The Plough Inn provides hours of entertainment for little ones with ball pools, see-saws, slides and more. The indoor play area is open from 9 am to 7 pm and costs £4 per child. If visiting between 3 pm and 6 pm it’s just £2 per child. If you don’t want to pay for playtime, their outdoor play area is just as good with vehicle-themed play equipment to ignite imaginations and encourage lots of physical play.
The Plough Inn restaurant serves food throughout the day so you can visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There’s plenty to choose from including all the pub classics plus lighter bites like jacket potatoes, sandwiches and wrap. Kids can eat Cod Bites, Chicken Bites or Sausages served with their choice of side for just £5.50. They also do portions for bigger kids and these are priced at £7.50.
The Ship Inn, Sewerby

It’s in a fantastic location right next to Sewerby Hall and Gardens and overlooking Flamborough Head and Bridlington bay. Being so close to the coast, this is definitely one best enjoyed during the summer so you can end your day with a visit to the seaside.
The Ship Inn has a menu for tailored specifically for those dining in the beer garden and it features some great dishes, many of which you would expect from a restaurant by the sea. For just £20 you can get two portions of Fish & Chips plus a pot of tea to share. The George & Dragon is a large traditional pub and restaurant in Wentworth near Rotherham. This place has a huge beer garden with decking and a recently added children’s play area. Perfect for soaking up the sun and sinking ice cold drinks during the summer, there’s plenty of space for little legs to run around whilst the grown-ups relax.
The food menu at the George & Dragon isn’t the most extensive but it features something to suit everyone with burgers, pasta dishes, pies and sandwiches on there alongside a number of starters. Their Steak & Ale pie is meant to be particularly good and they do a brilliant Chip Butty which is available with gravy or curry sauce. Kids’ meals are priced at £7.95 each and options include burgers, wraps, nuggets and Chicken Tikka. The George & Dragon also serves daily specials so be sure to check the board before ordering. This family-friendly Yorkshire pub in Cutthorpe near Chesterfield boasts beautiful interiors and has won multiple awards. The Peacock Inn is an independent pub serving a menu of locally sourced produce alongside a great selection of real ales, an extensive wine list and some superb local gins. Their menus change with the seasons as they are very much based on local produce but expect classics like Battered Haddock, Sausage & Mash and Gammon Steak as well as some more contemporary dishes like Halloumi Burger and King Prawn & Chilli Tagliatelle on their main menu. For those seeking something a bit lighter, there are plenty of salads and sandwiches to choose from too.
Children aged 12 and below can order from their children’s menu which offers Chicken Goujons, Pork Sausages, Fish Fingers or Tagliatelle in a creamy tomato sauce for £3.95 each. Kids can finish with ice cream for £2.25 and add a Fruit Shoot for just £1.30. This doesn’t have the largest or most modern of play areas but the play equipment here will certainly keep the little ones happy and help them burn off any excess energy before bedtime!
