Looking for afternoon tea in Scarborough?

There’s honestly nothing quite like tucking into a proper afternoon tea right by the seaside. Whether you are a local hunting for a weekend treat or you are just wrapping up a sunny day down on the coast, Scarborough has some absolutely cracking spots serving up towers of proper sandwiches, warm scones, and brilliant homemade cakes.

To help you avoid the usual tourist traps, I have rounded up six of the absolute best places for afternoon tea in Scarborough, covering everything from fancy country estates to cosy town centre hidden gems.

Asquith Hall

Address: Lady Edith’s Drive, Scarborough, YO12 5TD

Opening Times: Served Daily 12:00 to 16:00 (Must be booked by 10:00 am the same day)

Prices: Afternoon Tea – £35 pp, Sparkling Afternoon Tea – £38 pp (includes a glass of Prosecco), Champagne Afternoon Tea – £45 pp (includes a glass of Champagne)

Tucked away inside the gorgeous grounds of Asquith Hall Hotel & Spa, right on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, this place is your go-to if you want a proper luxury treat with a bit of a special occasion feel. You can choose to have your tea served in their cosy lounges, the rustic Courtyard Restaurant, or even out under a thatched gazebo if the British weather is behaving itself.

This one is a total classic rather than a quirky alternative. You can look forward to perfectly neat little finger sandwiches with traditional fillings, followed by super fluffy homemade scones piled high with thick clotted cream and jam. The top tier finishes things off with a changing lineup of elegant little desserts. If the sun is out, definitely grab a table on one of their pretty terraces so you can soak up those lovely countryside views.

Palm Court Hotel

Address: St Nicholas Cliff, Scarborough, YO11 2ES

Opening Times: Mon to Sun 12:00 to 17:00

Prices: £25 pp or £32 pp with Champagne

This independent, family-run spot is absolutely perfect if you want a premium lounge setting, but you’re a bit tired of the usual cucumber fillings. Guests can enjoy afternoon tea in Palm Court’s elegant, air-conditioned dining lounge, and there’s more than one menu on offer.

Purists can stick to the Classic afternoon tea, which comes loaded with rare Yorkshire beef, smoked Scottish salmon, and Coronation chicken sandwiches, plus sweet treats like pavlova and carrot cake.

However, if you prefer savoury flavours or you are trying to cut back on the sugar, you definitely need to try their unique savoury selection. It completely swaps out the standard cakes for rich mini prawn cocktails, artisanal sausage rolls, a Glaves award-winning pork pie, a fish cake, and a savoury cheese and chive scone served with cheddar cream and a brilliant bacon jam.

Emma’s Coffee Lounge

Address: 30 Huntriss Row, Scarborough, YO11 2EF

Opening Times: Mon to Sat 09:00 to 16:30, Sun 10:00 to 16:00 (Give them 24 hours’ notice for afternoon tea)

Prices: £17.95 pp or £21.95 with prosecco

If you are looking for an informal, mega cosy spot that focuses entirely on proper home baking, Emma’s Coffee Lounge is a fantastic choice. It is tucked right in the heart of the town centre, just a short walk from the main shops and the South Bay beach lift, so it’s a super handy stop off for families.

Their tiered stands are incredibly generous and offer superb value for money. Along with the usual sandwiches, they load the platters with fresh quiche, mini savoury pastries, fluffy scones, and a brilliant selection of their signature homemade sponge cakes. My absolute favourite detail is that you can actually order one to take away– perfect for a beach picnic on a sunny day!

Daisy Tea Rooms

Address: 513 Scalby Road, Scalby, Scarborough, YO13 0NW

Opening Times: Tue to Sat 10:00 to 16:00, Closed Sun and Mon

Prices: £21.50 pp

Based just on the outskirts of the main town in the lovely little village of Scalby, this buzzing neighbourhood tearoom is always packed with local foodies, which tells you everything you need to know. They love running fun themed menus for holidays and special events throughout the year, but if you are just dropping in for a standard visit, you definitely need to try their famous pancakes alongside their classic tiers.

Their afternoon tea selection offers fantastic value, giving you a brilliant mix of lemon scones, fresh cheesecakes, quiches, and crisp salads. This is also my absolute top recommendation in Scarborough if you are trying to find somewhere that caters to dietary requirements, as their kitchen regularly turns out incredible vegan and gluten-free variations that taste just as indulgent as the standard menu

Chameleon

Address: 19-25 Bar Street, Scarborough, YO11 2HT

Opening Times: Wed to Thu 12:00 to 21:00, Fri to Sat 12:00 to 23:00, Sun 12:00 to 18:00 (Bookings only for afternoon tea)

Hidden away on Bar Street, which is one of Scarborough’s coolest and oldest pedestrian lanes, Chameleon has a wonderfully laid-back, independent vibe. The team here focuses entirely on using great quality local ingredients to put together affordable, flavour-packed food.

An in-house baker makes every single component of this tea fresh on the day. The tiers come stacked with fresh savoury sandwiches, deli-style sausage rolls, homemade quiche slices, and classic scones. If you want to make a proper afternoon of it, I highly suggest opting for their sparkling upgrade to get your own bottle of Prosecco, or going all out with their brilliant 90-minute bottomless package.

Mansion House

Address: 14 Belmont Road, Scarborough, YO11 2BB

Opening Times: Served daily 12:30 to 16:30 (Essential bookings only, maximum 6 guests at a time)

Prices: £45 for 2 people, £55 for 2 people with a glass of Prosecco

For a peaceful, premium experience right on the cliffside overlooking Scarborough’s famous South Bay, Mansion House does a beautiful job. You can delve into your immaculately presented spread inside their lovely, classic period lounge, or, should the Yorkshire sun make an appearance, head out onto the patio for incredible sea views.

Their pre-booked set menu balances sweet and savoury flavours perfectly. It features freshly prepared sandwiches, warm sausage rolls, and an excellent selection of artisan cakes alongside the obligatory golden scones with jam and cream. Because they only take tiny groups at any one time, the service feels incredibly personal and exclusive, like your own private hidden retreat.

Have we missed your favourite afternoon tea in Scarborough from our list? It is a fab way to grab a satisfying meal without breaking the bank, especially since the deal is available all day rather than just at lunchtime.

One standout option remains the Holy Cluck, which is essentially where a grilled cheese meets a chicken parmigiana. It is packed with breaded chicken breast, marinara sauce, and a trio of melted mozzarella, Monterey Jack, and cheddar cheese, all served in toastie bread with house fries and a herby marinara dipping sauce. If you’re looking for something else, the deal also covers any dish from their Brunch and Lunch menu, like the Manahatta Club or the Avo-Licious, as well as the Deluxe Burger or the Not So Caesar.

If you are in the mood for something a little stronger, you can still upgrade your soft drink for just £2 to enjoy a 175ml glass of house wine or a pint of Madri, making it the perfect treat for some midweek relaxation. For those wanting to go all out, you can even upgrade the meal itself to a Flat Iron Steak with fries and a mini Caesar salad for just an extra £1. These guys now have a permanent spot from which they serve their unbelievably good gyros, and I LOVE them. Choose from chicken, pork, a combination of the two meats or salty halloumi, stuffed into a soft pita with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, fries and your choice of sauce.

Super filling and a bargain at just £8.50! There’s also a vegan version available, so non-meat eaters don’t have to miss out on this brilliant offer! If you’re feeling extra hungry (or you’re my husband), you can upgrade your gyros for £12.50 and get double the filling in an oversized pita.

Little Bao Boy

IMAGE: Little Bao Boy

3 Sovereign Square, Sovereign Street, Leeds LS1 4BA

From their resident kitchen at the North Brewing Co taproom on Sovereign Street, the iconic Little Bao Boy is serving up a stunning array of fluffy, cloud-like bao buns with a diverse selection of creative fillings. It is the perfect portion size for a midday refuel without that heavy afternoon slump.

Available Monday to Friday from noon until 4pm, the deal allows you to mix and match from their lineup of fan favourites. I’m a huge fan of the KFB (Katsu Fried Buttermilk Chicken), which comes topped with a delicious katsu curry mayo, but the Chicken & Gravy is a brilliant, comforting twist that you don’t see everywhere. It combines authentic Indian street food with a craft beer taproom in a way that shouldn’t work on paper but absolutely does in reality. The vibe is always buzzing, and because it’s a walk-in-only spot with no bookings taken, it’s my favourite place to just turn up and grab a bench whenever the craving hits.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly lunch that doesn’t skimp on flavour, this is where you should go. The menu is built entirely for sharing, with most of the legendary small plates still priced at under £7 each for 2026. You can easily get a satisfying lunch for two for well under £20, which is incredible value for food this good. You can’t visit without ordering the Okra Fries – they are seasoned to perfection and totally addictive – and the Vada Pav, which is a spicy mashed potato burger that is pretty much the ultimate Mumbai street food comfort meal.

While they are unlicensed for spirits, their craft beer selection is exceptional, featuring plenty of their own Bundobust Brewery brews designed specifically to pair with the spices. However, I still highly recommend the Mini Nutella Doughnuts, which come warm with vanilla ice cream and toasted hazelnuts.

The Ivy Asia

IMAGE: The Yorkshire Press

55 Vicar Lane, Leeds LS1 6BA

With its impressive, maximalist interiors and mouthwatering menus of Asian-inspired dishes, The Ivy Asia Leeds should be top of your list for a romantic lunch date. During the 19th Century, the upper classes tended to eat their evening meal at 8 pm or later, and the Duchess would often find herself feeling hungry long before. She began requesting trays of bread & butter and cakes to be served with tea and sent to her room at around 4 pm. Anna would regularly invite friends and acquaintances to join her for tea, and what began as a personal preference ended up being one of the most popular ways to socialise among the Victorian upper classes.

The dining concept was soon adopted by high-end hotels, and the elite of British society would venture out to enjoy tiered silver platters of delicate finger sandwiches and petit fours. Although not something we enjoy on a daily basis, afternoon tea is still very much part of British life. No longer accessible only to the elite and the wealthy, it’s widely available and regularly enjoyed as a treat or for special celebrations.

This luxurious and quintessentially British dining concept is best enjoyed in beautiful surroundings, and few places in the UK are as picturesque as the Yorkshire Dales. This part of God’s Own Country is home to numerous country hotels, gastropubs and quaint cafes offering splendid afternoon teas, and they vary drastically in both price and composition.

If you’re visiting the Yorkshire Dales and fancy an afternoon of refined indulgence, we’ve saved you the job of trawling through search results and numerous websites to find your perfect venue. You can tuck into favourites like their signature Chicken Parmesan, a zesty Pork Stir Fry, or a Roasted Jerk Chicken Thigh served with authentic jerk rice. They also have a fantastic burger selection, including a Minted Lamb option and a Broad Bean and Red Pepper vegan burger, all served with their signature hand-cut chips.

The drinks on offer are pretty good too! During your time slot, you can order unlimited cask ale, Magners, Amstel, prosecco, and spirits with mixers. For those with a sweet tooth, the brunch even includes dessert options like Biscoff Cheesecake or Warm Cookie Dough. Excellent value for money!

If you’re planning to head down, just keep in mind that booking isn’t quite as simple as a single click. From indulgent festive gifts to thoughtful picks for food lovers, each product has been carefully selected for its quality, flavour, and gift-worthy appeal.

The Food and Drink Gifts We’re Loving This Christmas

The Proper Christmas Cheeseboard – George & Joseph (£40)

Chapel Allerton-based cheesemongers, George & Joseph, have launched a trio of festive cheese boxes that are perfect for gifting to your favourite foodie. Curated by founder Stephen Fleming, they’re available to order both in-store and online.

A personal favourite is The Proper Christmas Cheeseboard. Priced at £40, it includes a whopping 1kg of classic British cheeses, all handmade by award-winning producers. From the crumbly and full-flavoured Quicke’s Mature Cheddar to the creamy and mellow Colton Bassett Stilton (it wouldn’t be Christmas without a blue!), there’s something to suit most cheese preferences. The perfect cheeseboard to round off a proper Yorkshire Christmas feast!

Wellington Meal Kit – Indulge Dining (£50)

We foodies love dining out and sampling the culinary creations of talented professional chefs. At this time of year, however, eating restaurant-quality food in the comfort of our own homes would sometimes be preferable to venturing out on a cold, wet evening.

Earlier this year, I discovered Indulge Dining – a Michelin-star meal kit company that has consistently held a five-star rating since its launch. Chef and founder Andy Bowler boasts an impressive career history, having trained under Michel Roux Jr., spent five years working at both Fera at Claridge’s and Roganic with Simon Rogan, and honed his skills as Sous Chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Petrus.

I opted for one of Indulge Dining’s bestsellers – the Beef Wellington Kit, and it was superb! Every element of the three-course menu is included, along with easy-to-follow instructions on how to heat and present each course. It exceeded my taste expectations too: undoubtedly the most delicious beef wellington I’ve tried thus far. If you know a foodie who loves fine dining, I highly recommend gifting a meal kit from Indulge Dining. Veggies need not miss out either, as there are meat-free versions of the kits available too.

Hard Honey: Pure Honey – Honey Thief (£34)

I do enjoy a tipple or two at Christmas and, because I also enjoy a tipple or two on numerous other occasions throughout the year, I like to try something new over the festive season. My Christmas drinks cabinet this year will most certainly feature a bottle from Honey Thief – the UK’s first hard honey liqueur brand, which was established right here in Yorkshire.

Made from 100% sustainable European honey, the naturally fermented honey liqueur is available in four flavours – Pure Honey, Elderflower Nectar, Sour Cherry and Blueberry & Blackcurrant. Treat someone to a 70cl bottle of the 15% ABV liqueur (perfect as a cocktail base or simply over ice for sipping) or a couple of Honey Thief’s sparkling ready-to-drink cans. A unique and thoughtful gift from Yorkshire for cocktail lovers!

Coffee Tequila Blanco – Hacien (£39.95)

Liqueurs aren’t to everyone’s taste, so here’s another of my favourite 2025 tipple discoveries. Leeds-based HACIEN has produced the perfect tequila for those festive nightcaps and celebratory cocktails. Made with 100% blue agave, Coffee Tequila Blanco delivers a rich, smooth taste of roasted coffee and dark chocolate.

This premium spirit is available on Amazon and usually costs £54.95 per bottle, but it is currently on a limited-time deal for just £29.70. Forget generic gifts – these five premium brands, from smooth vodka to cutting-edge tequila, prove that the North is at the forefront of the global spirits industry.

1. Hacien Tequila

Hacien Tequila has firmly established itself as a disruptive force in the market, proving that world-class tequila can be conceived and championed right here in Yorkshire. The brand focuses on delivering a smooth, high-quality spirit perfect for sipping or elevating cocktails beyond the traditional Margarita. Hacien’s appeal lies in its modern, minimalist aesthetic and its dedication to the pure, refined flavours of the agave plant. Offering a vibrant alternative to the usual festive spirits, this brand is the perfect choice for the drinks aficionado looking to introduce something exciting and unexpected to the Christmas Day lineup.

Our Pick: Hacien Coffee Tequila

Perfect for the ultimate Christmas Espresso Martini, this blend offers a rich, aromatic twist on the classic tequila profile, blending the finest agave spirit with deep coffee notes. It’s an essential after-dinner pour.

2. Dutch Barn Vodka

Dutch Barn is a testament to the purity and quality of ingredients sourced from the Yorkshire landscape. This vodka is known for its exceptionally clean, smooth finish, a result of its unique production process. Distilled from British potatoes and pure water, Dutch Barn offers a premium, flavour-neutral base that is ideal for crafting any festive cocktail. For the host prioritising a high-quality mixer that lets the other ingredients shine through, or for the minimalist seeking a sophisticated, unflavored spirit, Dutch Barn is the definitive Yorkshire choice.

Our Pick: The Original Dutch Barn Vodka

You can’t beat the original. Its exceptional purity makes it the perfect utility spirit for Christmas, guaranteeing that every mixed drink, from a simple tonic to a complex festive punch, is clean and crisp.

3. Filey Bay Single Malt Whisky

As one of the pioneering names in the emerging English whisky scene, Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, based at Filey Bay, adds an element of prestige and local history to your Christmas bar. Their single malt whiskies offer a depth of flavour that reflects their coastal location, often featuring notes of spice, vanilla, and a subtle salinity. Perfect for slow, contemplative sipping on a cold Christmas evening, or for upgrading a classic hot toddy, Filey Bay provides the traditional warmth and complexity that is essential for the festive season. Bringing this bottle to the table is a clear statement that you appreciate both local craft and exceptional quality.

Our Pick: Filey Bay Flagship Single Malt

This is the bottle that started it all. It’s an easy-drinking, accessible malt that is still rich and warming enough for the colder months, making it ideal for sharing with guests who might be new to English whisky.

4.

Looking for ideas for festive dining in Leeds?

With only a few weeks to go until Christmas, many of us are steaming ahead with festive plans and preparations. The build-up to Christmas is the most magical time of year, with Leeds’ streets twinkling with lights and events bringing the seasonal spirit to families and friends across the city. Christmas is also the perfect time for indulgence, and what better way to enjoy the season than with a sumptuous festive meal cooked by someone else? Few things lift the spirits like a delicious Christmas menu at a top Leeds restaurant.

Leeds is the Yorkshire destination of choice for partygoers and anyone seeking a memorable festive feast. The city boasts a diverse hospitality scene, from award-winning dining spots to cosy, characterful eateries, offering something for every festive occasion. To make planning easier, we have researched the very best Christmas menus and festive dining deals in Leeds for 2025. Whether you are looking for cosy vibes, spectacular settings or plenty of Christmas indulgence, our guide highlights the best places to celebrate in style.

Top Christmas Menus and Festive Dining Deals in Leeds 2025

Christmas Beyond The Cosmos at The Alchemist – Greek Street & Trinity

Image: The Yorkshire Press

Where: Yorkshire House, Greek St, Leeds LS1 5SH and Level 1, Trinity, Leeds LS1 6HW
Price: 3 courses for £40

Kicking off our festive dining roundup is Christmas Beyond The Cosmos at The Alchemist, available at both the Greek Street and Trinity venues. You can enjoy three courses for £40, or go all out with three courses plus two festive cocktails for £65.

We popped in last week to sample some of the menu and were thoroughly impressed. The 24 Hour Chip starter, with layers upon layers of perfectly fried potato, is absolutely delicious. They’ve also added a seasonal twist to one of their bestsellers: crispy strips of buttermilk fried turkey served with stuffing balls, fries, festive slaw and a pot of gravy.

Our favourite has to be the Loaded Festive Burger. Think smashed beef patty, pork and apple patty, bacon jam, truffle mayo, onion rings, glazed pig in blanket, dipping gravy and festive fries – the works. For dessert, the Salted Caramel Pot is generous, indulgent and simply fantastic.

And the cocktails? As always at The Alchemist, they are a highlight. We loved The Trifle and The Last Bounty – pure boozy indulgence. This is a festive dining experience in Leeds that really hits all the right notes for food, drinks and atmosphere.

All-You-Can-Eat Festive Tapas at La Fiesta

IMAGE: The Yorkshire Press

Where: Merrion Centre, 7 Merrion Way, Leeds LS2 8BT
Price: Monday – Thursday: Lunch £27.95, Evening £34.95
Friday – Sunday: Lunch £29.95, Evening £37.95
Kids (5-10 years old) Lunch: £12.95, Evening: £14.95
(Kids Under 5 Eat Free)

For a more relaxed festive dining experience in Leeds, La Fiesta is a must-visit. Leeds’ first all-you-can-eat Mediterranean tapas restaurant opened just a couple of months ago, and it’s perfect for sharing small plates with friends or family. Using the tablet ordering system on your table, you can enjoy an unlimited number of small plates and access a fully loaded salad bar as many times as you like. And don’t be fooled by the name – this is much more than salad. Think charcuterie, breads, pastas, couscous, cheeses, dips and plenty more.

There is a huge selection of small plates to choose from, and for December, they’ve added some festive specials. Highlights include:

Costillas de Cerdo – slow-cooked pork ribs with red wine, onion and warming spices

Filete de Cordero – lamb steak marinated in Spanish spices, pan-cooked with honey and chilli, served with red onion aioli

Carrilleras de Ternera – slow-cooked beef cheeks with onion, red wine and dark chocolate

Cerdos en Monta – pigs in blankets, because it wouldn’t be Christmas without them

And if you still have room (we seriously struggled), there’s a dedicated Churros station where you can enjoy unlimited churros with chocolate sauce – the perfect festive finish. La Fiesta is ideal for anyone seeking indulgent Christmas dining in Leeds that’s relaxed, sociable and packed with variety.

Menu Festivo at Azotea

IMAGE: Azotea

Where: 2 Sovereign Street, Leeds LS1 4DA
Price: 2 courses for £40, 3 courses for £55

Leeds’ much-loved Latin American restaurant and bar, Azotea, is turning up the heat this Christmas with its Menu Festivo.
